Another Day, Not Another Deadline...
Christmas is right around the corner. Then New Years right after that and then BAM, we’re in 2026.
There CAN be a lot of anxiety associated with this time, especially in relation to the goals that you set or things that you wanted to do…
But lets cut that off at the head right here and right now. You’re better than that.
Don’t worry about what could have been.
Focus on what you CAN do.
Look, I’m not trying to get all cheesy here, I just want to shoot it to you straight.
It’s highly likely that there are things that you wanted to do this year that you didn’t do.
The marathon that you wanted to run, the money you wanted to make, the skill you wanted to acquire, the vacations you wanted to go on, etc.
And it’s about this time that you check back with that 2025 list and realize that time is running out.
This then leads to maybe some panic or guilt or feelings of disappointment that you cover up with pumpkin pie and gravy…
But what I’m trying to tell you right now is that NONE OF THAT MATTERS. That’s the past. This is the now. Today is a brand new day and tomorrow is too.
The end of the year is a special time with holidays, family, events, etc… but it’s ALSO just another day.
I don't mean to down play it and offend anyone, but it really is just another day.
It’s another day to take a look at those goals and work towards them. It’s another day to pick yourself up from a failure, brush yourself off and get after it again.
It’s another day to try something new, to be bold, brave, spontaneous.
Who cares whether you complete something on 12/31 or 1/1… no one.
Just you and the weight you might have put on the new years resolutions. New Years resolutions are like fad diets.
They are fun and new and work for a bit because you’re motivated to do it… but then everyday life comes in and the extreme-ness of the diet gets in the way.
You fall back into the normal routine of food and slowly but surely fall off.
BUT— If instead of coming out hot with a big lofty extreme diet (or goal), you just plug away, bit by bit everyday making one more decision to move the needle, then it gets built into your NEW ROUTINE and becomes part of the DNA of your day.
To further this example with food and then comparing it to your goals:
FOOD EXAMPLE — If you go from eating fast food for multiple meals a day, right to eating paleo, trying to use Butcher Box and cook all your food, it might be an uphill battle.
INSTEAD, cut out one fast food meal that you eat a day and replace it with a meal from home.
Instead of 4 cans of soda a day, reduce it to 2.
Instead of cookies after dinner every night, replace it with flavored rice cakes and honey… etc.
GOALS EXAMPLE — Instead of getting to the end of the year, realizing you haven’t met your goals, panicking and trying to frantically start a business, run a marathon, learn a skill, etc— Just take it like another day.
Start right here and right now with the FIRST step. That’s it.
For starting a business you need to validate the service, product and/or market. Do that. Then go to the next.
For running a marathon, you need to first run a mile. Do that and then move on.
For learning a skill, you just need to practice. Film yourself, watch it, analyze it and then work on improving more tomorrow.
The anxiety we feel about coming to the end of the year and not being where we want to be is manufactured and self imposed. Don’t fall into that trap.
