People that say they’ve found balance in life are full of crap There’s never a balance to life. The beauty of life is that there isn’t any balance.

The unbalanced nature of life, makes life what it is. It’s unpredictable and in a lot of ways, out of our control. And when those moments arise, moments that are out of our control, we crumble.

We pursue balance like a crutch to cope with the uncomfortable fact that life is HARD. The body and mind crave equilibrium and homeostasis. Let’s drop in the definitions here for reference:

Equilibrium 🤜🏻 🤛🏻 A state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced.

Balance ⚖️ An even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.

Homeostasis 🧘🏻‍♀️ The tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes.

We are in a constant battle with everything going on around us to find these things. In fact, it’d be safe to say that the pursuit to find balance, equilibrium and homeostasis is what consumes our lives. Whether we admit it or not.

In our effort to FIND balance, we live in an unbalanced state never being satisfied. Because in our heart of hearts, we believe that one day we will be balanced.

But WHAT IF instead of battling, we embrace. Instead of never feeling satisfied, we accept that we are a work in progress.

Here’s my rebuttal for these definitions:

Equilibrium 🤜🏻 🤛🏻 Strength is built by adding resistance, both in the mind and the muscles.

Balance ⚖️ When we fall, we learn how to get back up. Falling is inevitable. Failure is only guaranteed when you refuse to stay down.

Homeostasis 🧘🏻‍♀️ Never pushing yourself past stability leaves you unprepared for when you get rocked to the core. Physically or emotionally.

Balance is a fallacy.

We’ve all bought into the idea that we can find it.

In reality, balance is shiny object distracting us from staying ready for the ups and downs that are guaranteed.

Sometimes you’re going to lose sleep while burning the midnight oil.Sometimes you’re going to miss out on some gatherings because you’re building your empire. Sometimes you’re going to miss an important call because you’re at a sports game for your kids.

These things are going to happen. And when we live a life on offense, ready and waiting for the unbalance that comes our way, we won’t be surprised when it does.

Stay in the fight.
