Here are the Top 7 takeaways of running a community of this scale:

  1. You or your admin have to be ACTIVE. It’s a constant turning of the flywheel. Each day is a new day to share with the community and reengage them. If you don’t, they will drift away.

  2. Piggybacking on the last one. While YOU need to be active, you also need to put members in the position to engage in their own. Small groups, training calls, sprints, AMAs, discussion topics, etc.

  3. When a purchase is made, the new member ultimately wants a solution the problem they have. The goal of the community is to provide that solution. This is multilayered. Calls, course material, DMs to individuals, resources. Hand holding doesn’t scale, but it’s VERY important at times

  4. If your community doesn’t have a WHY bigger than your own personal leverage, it just won’t work. The community isn’t about YOU. It’s about the COMMUNITY. Sure, it can start centered around one person, but it spreads and grows when every single delivery is about the members in the community and solving their problems.

  5. Try everything (except for drugs). CONSTANTLY be willing to pivot and completely overhaul if something isn’t working or the feedback is negative. If you let your ego get in the way with stuff like this, your community will die. Don’t let it die.

  6. COLLECT FEEDBACK. You want any and all feedback that you can collect. But guess what, the most important feedback is from members cancelling. Put together a feedback form they can fill out with why they want to leave. That alone will teach you more than any positive feedback from members. Use the positive ones for testimonials 😉

  7. Speaking of cancellations: reach out to every single one PERSONALLY. It could be a templated email that you add to as needed, but take the time to message them and genuinely offer help to them regardless of them being in the community. This isn’t a Hail Mary, or a sell, this is just being a cool person willing to help.

There is SO much more, but this is all fresh and top of mind. Communities are not easy to run, but if you at least do each of these things, you’ll be off to a killer start.
