Cool Isn’t Found, It’s Created

This is how you leverage the power of "cool" ... even if it's not all that cool:

straw hat

Heard a great story from a friend of mine today about his first entrepreneur venture. Hint: It has to do with that hat.

In high school he was a jock and a fairly "cool kid". He knew it and used that to his advantage here. Lets compare that to todays standards of having a following. He had a "high school following" you could say...

Over the summer he had gotten this "interesting" straw hat. On the first day of class, he wore the hat proudly.

He said "oh this thing, ya I got it from the surfer 'Abdul' over the summer... no big deal"

(there isn't a surfer named Abdul, he made that up)

They of course wanted one.

He said he'd see what he could do, but it might cost them a bit

"sure, take my money"

My friend then went back to the store he actually got them and bought the whole inventory for a wholesale price.

The next weekend he sold all of them at a football game for some sweet profit.

And THAT is when he realized he was meant to be an entrepreneur!

Moral here is, even if something isnt all that cool, YOU can make it cool by being confident with it.

Wear your "straw hats" proudly!
