The Big Circle Framework: Why a Huge Following Can Still Make You Zero Dollars

Blog · Aug 26, 2026

I see this all the time and it hurts every time...

Someone with a legit following. Real accomplishments. People asking them to speak at events. And their content is making them... nothing. Zero dollars.

I was working through this exact situation this week, and the pattern is always the same. The content strategy is "film anything and put it up." A little of this, a little of that, whatever felt fun that day. And from the outside it looks like they're doing everything right! They're posting! They're consistent! They have followers!

But here's the question their audience can't answer: Why am I following you? What am I going to GET from you? What are you actually selling?

If people can't answer that, the following is just a number on a screen.

Think about it this way. Imagine a pizza shop owner with 100k followers who posts about their dog, their vacation, a random dance trend, and occasionally... pizza. Fun account! Makes no money. Because nobody knows what the account is FOR.

So here's the framework I use to fix it. I call it the big circle.

Picture one big circle in the center. That's your mission. What you're about, what you're selling, where you want to funnel people. And it needs to be SPECIFIC. A course, a service, a membership, consulting... something concrete that people can actually buy.

Then around the edge of that big circle, there's a bunch of little circles overlapping it. Your kids. Your morning routine. The fact that you own a coffee shop. Your hobbies. Your story.

Those little circles aren't the point. They're what make you a whole person. They're why people relate to you, resonate with you, feel like they actually know you. They make you likable.

But the big circle in the middle is what makes you MONEY.

Most people get this backwards. They have fifty little circles and no big one. All personality, no direction. And to be clear, this doesn't mean every video is a sales pitch. Please don't do that. It means you have a clear answer to "where does all this content ultimately point?" and everything you make orbits around that.

One more thing while I'm on this, because it matters right now...

Content is coming back around to what it was in like 2013. Simple stuff. What we're now calling yapping... just you, talking to a camera or walking down the street, making one valuable point. And day in the life content where you're not even talking, just text on screen. 4:30am, brushing your teeth. 5:21, making breakfast.

That style is working again BECAUSE it's simple and real. You don't need a production team. You don't need trends. You honestly shouldn't touch trends at all if they don't fit you... a 50-year-old business owner doing a staged TikTok dance helps nobody.

So here's the exercise:

Write down the ONE thing you want to sell. Not five things. One. Then list the handful of personal circles that make you human. Then look at your last 20 posts and ask: how many of these pointed at the big circle, even indirectly?

If the answer is zero... you're not building a business. You're just filming stuff.

Sell something. Don't film anything.

Stay in the fight, Kevin
