Find The People You Aspire To Be Like
Coworkers thought I was absolutely crazy
BUT
One of the main reasons for quitting my W2 was for the opportunities available if I did.
One of those being working with @mhp_guy
Jim Rohn has the famous quote:
“you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”
And I believe that.
You have to put yourself in the room of the people you aspire to be like. The ones that will challenge you and push you.
Otherwise, the needle never moves.
Today was one of those days where that decision was affirmed
Moderating a call with Chris and a handful of others, he pretty much hands over his playbook for growing a podcast.
Things like this don’t get shared all that often because, frankly, people don’t know. They haven’t done it.
That’s why you need to be around people who HAVE done it.
There was so much juice, but I’ll condense it down for this tweet.
Chris’ podcast/ YouTube growth playbook:
if your current channel is mostly shorts, start a new channel. You don’t want to drag short term subscriber behavior to long form expectations
ALWAYS record video for your podcasts. Even if it’s messy or not perfect. YouTube is a discovery engine
run a 10 episode test. Commit to 10. Gauge the energy, traction, data and whether you want to keep going after that
keep your brand broad enough to test multiple formats. Chris did: live Q&As, interviews, solos, year end reviews, etc. TEST!
podcast tours might not yield anything. Don’t expect too much. INSTEAD, Climb the podcast ladder.
podcast ladder: start with no name pods, be a great guest and then bigger pods will hear about it and ask you. Climb the ladder and end with @joerogan.
to get in touch with these shows to start, have someone from Upwork scrape a list and start cold emailing.
it’s not a requirement to have your own podcast in order to go on others, but it helps. You need a place to funnel the attention
going on other podcasts is basically the only way to grow an audio only RELIABLY. That’s why posting to YouTube is so important
There’s so much more, but I’ll stop there.
Find the people you aspire to be like and get in their inner circle!
