I've recently had multiple conversations with business owners about what they are looking for with "consultants".

And the general consensus was super validating but also a little shocking

Just for context, these are not your local home service companies. These are the next level up. More in the 10-30M ARR range.

They have "IT guys". They don't need that.

Most of the time, the IT guy does a bunch of stuff they don't understand and talks in a "foreign language"to them

It makes them feel dumb. They know they need work done and they just kind of have to trust the IT guy to do the work.

But NOW, the role of the IT guy is slowly going away... actually its rapidly going away.

ESPECIALLY if you can't explain what you're doing simply.

The role that IS developing and the role these owners WANT is the consultant.

They want someone that understands their operations and can talk like a normal person to them, explaining what needs to be done and how it works.

AI is exponentially breaking down the technical moats that used to exist.

Now, the most important characteristics are:

If you're the IT guy now and you can do this. Rad! You'll be crushing it soon.

If you are looking for the opportunity of a generation to build in a space that is basically untouched and brand new... here's your sign.
