IKEA might be a close second to Disneyland for some weekend family fun. Haters will hate, but the kids had a BLAST.

And whatever you might think about their meatballs or furniture quality, you can’t deny that IKEA is a behemoth of a company.

And everyone likes a good origin story. So here’s a 1 min origin story for your Sunday musings.

ORIGIN STORY 👇

Founded in 1943 by a 17 year old.

Originally selling small household items like pens, picture frames and table runners.

5 years in expanded to furniture made locally and fairly priced so that anyone could afford it.

By the 1950s IKEA released its first catalogue and then shortly thereafter a show room. This was super novel at the time.

The way the furniture was designed and packaged revolutionized the industry by reducing shipping costs and being able to acquire a much larger customer reach.

Both the catalogue and the flat packed furniture were huge moments in IKEAs history, growing it into what it is today.

A $30 billion company.
