How To Teach Your Kiddos Earning, Saving and Delayed Gratification
It’s never too early to teach the principles of earning, saving and delayed gratification.
I have two girls under 6. Here’s how we’re doing it.
“Puffs”
🧵
Puffs??
Yep. Check this out.
It’s simple; the number of puffs equal the level of reward.
As they do things that are “puff worthy”, we let them pick out puffs and put them in their bucket.
When they save up enough, they can spend the puffs on smaller rewards or save them for bigger rewards.
As with everything, it’s not perfect. But we try and stay 80/20 about it.
Sometimes gummies and tv are given without needing puffs…
And of course we don’t want them to feel like they have to EARN date nights with us…
But the lesson here for them is when they do things that are puff worthy like:
- Picking up without being asked
- Kindness to each other
- Listening and obeying mom and dad
- Random acts of helpfulness
- etc
… it pays off.
