Just try the free version
I went to the bathroom, came back, and there were twenty-seven new AI tools I'd never heard of lol.
That's honestly what this week felt like. Somebody on a call with our community asked how you're even supposed to keep up with all of it. Do you watch every YouTube video and jump on every live call??
I get it, it's a LOT.
What I told them (and what I keep telling myself) is whenever you hear about something new, just sign up for the free version and mess around with it.
You might not like it, and it might not fit what you do, and that's fine. You're still getting a feel for what's out there instead of finding out three months later and scrambling to catch up.
That's what I did with Grok. I started on the free plan and maxed it out, then went to the next plan and maxed that out too. Then I went up again because I actually liked using it.
That same week we were talking about AI agents for messy industries, the ones with ugly websites, pricing all over the place and shipping that's a pain. An agent can go comparison shop all of that for you. And somebody always says "yeah but people will just run their own agents."
Maybe someday, but they have to know what an AI agent is first.
Last I checked, only about two percent of people in the U.S. pay for an AI subscription. We're in a bubble. If you're reading this you're already ahead of most people, who are still on the free version of ChatGPT or are honestly a little scared of the whole thing.
So the average person isn't going to set up their own agent anytime soon, which means if you start learning this stuff now by actually using the tools, you've got a head start.
You don't have to master every new tool that came out while you were in the bathroom. Just get in the habit of trying the free version when something new comes across your feed.
Here's your homework:
- Pick one AI tool you've heard about but never opened and sign up for the free plan today.
- Spend twenty minutes using it on something real you actually need done.
- Write down a few sentences on what it was good at and what was useless.
- Put a weekly reminder on your calendar to try one new free tool.
I'm doing the same thing this week with a couple tools I keep hearing about. If you find one that's actually good, send it my way!
Stay in the fight, Kevin
