My First 4th Off the Streets in 10 Years
This is the first year in the last decade that I didn’t have to work the “streets” on the 4th of July.
For 10 years this is what the office looked like on the 4th.
The rules for the night were:
keep your windows up (people like to shoot rockets in cop cars)
along with no. 1 — dont get blown up
don’t get in a situation that pulls too many resources from the rest of the city
go home
While I am SO beyond thankful this is not what my 4th looks like anymore—
I am also SO thankful that there are incredible men and women out there handling nights like this so that the rest of us can enjoy the day with our families.
One life hack that I’ve learned from working the 4th for years.
- Don’t shoot fireworks off yourself. Just go to a show. You’ll be far more likely to keep all your appendages that way.
Stay safe ya’ll 🤙🏻🇺🇸
