My Morning Routine You Don’t Want to Copy

Twitter Post

——————————————————————-

Mondays are a “day off” from my police job, but this is what my morning looks like (roughly).

0400 - wake up

0410 to 0430 - Wake up the brain 🧠 Wordle, Duo Lingo (Spanish app), Lingvano (ASL app)

0430 to 0500 - Read Yesterday it was “The Donut King”

0500 to 0630 - Deep work Yesterday it consisted of:

That time goes by WAY faster than you’d think.

At 0600, the kids got up but I sent them back to bed for some “quiet time”. It was too early…

At 0620 they came back down to rummage through the cabinets. I let them 🤷🏻‍♂️

0630 to 0645 - Kids breakfast I think it was blueberries, sausage and toast

0645 to 8 - Workout in the garage Warm up run then some lifting. SUPER super setting since I was running out of time and had the girls out with me which I LOVE, but it adds to the time. Worth it.

0800 to 0825 - RUSH Eat my breakfast, pack my oldest lunch and snacks, get shoes on everyone, do messy “dad style” pony tails and get everyone in the car

0845 to 0900 - School Drop off Drop off my oldest and take my youngest back home

0915 to 1000 - Team call Covering some of the needle movers for the week

1030 to 1100 - Call with @Trentjhughes. What a freaking awesome call. STILL thinking about how cool Trenton is and so thankful for that chat

1100 to 1200 - Content work How long does it take you to film 10min worth of content? It took an hour this time… 🤦🏻‍♂️

The rest of the day flies by as well. Lunch, school pick up, dinner, showers, clean up the damage from the TORNADO that went through the house, watch a recording of a zoom call I missed and then get set up for being at work-WORK the rest of the week.

This isn’t a flex… there’s nothing flex-worthy about this, this is just what a day looks like as a dad, living the entrepreneur life simultaneously with the W2 life.

Balance is a fallacy.

During those calls and content work, Disney+ was the babysitter.

I’m not proud of that, but that’s what happens sometimes.

The other variable is that there will never be enough time in the day for all that I want to do.

If you are as ambitious as I think you are, you can’t ever expect to have all the time that you need. So what do you do?

Answer: What you can.

Get up earlier, work while they nap (if they nap), keep a running list of the things you need to get done and do them in the windows you have.

Build as you go, when you can, with what you have.

I’ve seen those cool “Copy my routine” posts…. In this case, you probably shouldn’t copy mine.

But if you are in the same boat, with kids, W2, BIG ambitions, not enough time in the day… You’re not alone. It will work out… or at least that’s what I’m telling myself. ;)
