An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success

2.7min Read

Not just anybody will get to this point, but when you do, your life will never be the same**.

Maybe you came into business and entrepreneurship with a strong why

or maybe it develops over time the deeper you get.

Either way, there will come a point when you are DONE messing around.

This is the REAL turning point for you.

It’s literally a light switch that goes off in your head. If you’ve felt it, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

It’s a moment when everything that you’ve experienced comes together and you realize that you are ALL in.

So what does all in look like?

What does this moment look like when you decide to bet on yourself and be relentless in your pursuit of success?

It looks like this:

  • Permissionless action

You don’t need anyone’s permission to start a blog, a YouTube channel, a website, build an app, a newsletter, a business… you can just do it. If there’s someone that you want to connect with them, JUST CONNECT WITH THEM. If there’s an idea you have, just start building it.

  • Swift action

The best time to start something is yesterday. The second best time is right now. “One day I’ll do _____” is a dream killing sentence. You don’t need one day to come, you need today. Do the thing today. There’s a possibility that what you end up doing doesn’t pan out, but the skills that you acquire, connections you make and path you pave for yourself through the process of taking action swiftly will pay dividends.

  • Calculated action

Don’t throw caution to the wind and think you’re invincible… you have to be smart with this. I see you. I know the fire you have, but let’s direct it in the right direction. The reality is that entrepreneurship is hard. There’s a million ways to make a million dollars, but it’s not easy. I’m not there… not even close… and that’s why I’m still a cop. I believe in my businesses and what I’m building, but I have mouths to feed and a mortgage to pay. Those take priority.

Notice how all three of those things had to do with action.

That’s what it looks like once you’ve flipped the switch and you’re all in.

You stop dreaming and start doing
You stop asking for permission
You move quick and fail fast
You weigh out the opportunities and move

Also, there’s no turning back. You were meant for greatness. It’s now up to you what you do with it.

— Let’s break it down

Real life stories here, team.

Several months ago I heard that a family friend was selling his business.

I can’t say too much about it YET, but It’s a very unique product in the warehouse industry.

He invented the product and has been running this on the side for several years. VERY casually grossing $250k+.

He assembles the product in house and has a list of distributors that are loyal to him.

It has had

ZERO marketing
ZERO branding
Very little attention has been given to it, yet it was still pretty successful.

Also great margins.

There’s tons more I could describe, but here’s how I’m going about looking at this:

  1. He has inventory and I’d want to buy that out from him
  2. It’s not making any revenue currently so it’s super difficult to value, but I’d want to pay him a specified percentage of top line each year for a few years. The better it does, the more he’d make.

Win-win.

I’ll keep you updated as this develops, but the point here is that where there’s a will, there’s a way. I’m not an expert in this particular industry, but I’ve stacked enough skills up in other experiences that I believe I can build this up. When opportunity knocks, you should answer.

BITE 2
— The “if we lose everything” test

This is not dating or marriage advice, but here’s my rule of thumb and why I’m a proponent of marrying on the younger side and growing WITH your partner.

Money is great, but it’s not everything. It’s hard to gain and easily lost.

You want to be with someone that truthfully doesn’t even care about the money. They love you for YOU and will be just as happy to sit there with you and eat ramen.

This is the “if we lose everything test”. If all fell apart, if you made a bet on yourself and lost, if you went all in and failed, would they still stand by your side?

Tough question to ask, but incredible feeling when you realize that their love isn’t a condition of your money or success.

Everyone talks about doing THE ONE THING and letting everything else go…

Maybe I’m way off target here, but I’ve never adhered to that. (I’ll let you know later if that works out for me 😉)
