An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success

Doughnut-Heads, happy Sunday! Thank you for popping in and reading.

Another short, sweet (pun intended) and actionable newsletter for you.

After last week’s “Doughnut Hole” edition, I received some positive feedback, so I’ll let it rip again this week with the bite sized format.

Bite #1

What is your ENOUGH?

Have you ever thought about that? Its SO easy to get caught in a trap of chasing the carrot and never reaching a level of success that satiated that desire.

Some call it “life style creep” where it doesn’t come in fast, but instead a slow creep of making more and spending more and making even more then spending even more… until you’re a millionaire living paycheck to paycheck.

Sounds crazy, but this happens more often than you think. At all levels of financial means.

So then what do you do to combat that?

One way is to get really clear on what ENOUGH means to you.

Yes, I know, “enough” might change over time. It most likely will. BUT if you don’t have an idea NOW, you never will.

We could go deep here, but that wouldn’t be bite sized. I’ll leave you with these questions to chew on (another pun)

  1. How do I spend my time when I have full control over my schedule?
  2. What does my ideal Tuesday look like?
  3. What financial cushion (savings, investments) makes me feel completely at peace?
  4. What level of business success is truly enough before I shift my focus to impact?
  5. What level of physical strength, endurance, and health makes me feel at my peak?
  6. What does my ideal family dynamic look like when I am fully present?
  7. What do I want to be remembered for?

Here’s what I’ve been working on clarifying in a personal statement of “enough”

*Enough is full control over my time, my work, and my impact.

Enough is $500K+ in annual income from businesses and content—allowing me to live, create, and give freely.

Enough is running businesses that generate wealth without owning my time.

Enough is waking up every day physically strong, mentally sharp, and deeply present with my family.

Enough is knowing that I’ve shared my knowledge, built my legacy, and helped others break do the same.*

Bite #2

You can just do things

The distance between what we want and what we have is action.

It’s a dopamine producing and almost pleasurable feeling to just TALK about that we want to do. Because in those words we live in a beautiful state of purgatory. It’s where we’ve acknowledged that we WANT to do something but we also haven’t had any failure from actually doing it yet.

We also haven’t felt success, but in general people fear loss more than they WANT gain. It’s way more powerful for the potential loss of $100 than the potential gain of $100.

So in this weird middle ground, we’re happy with our day dreaming thoughts and also satisfied with not “losing” anything… it’s a dangerous place to be. A place that MOST people live.

But it’s the difference between THAT PLACE and the place right on the other side of the fence that separates the good from the great, the poor from the rich, the amateur from the pro.

Again, all that it takes is action… but that’s the hard part… except… and listen carefully here… you can just do things.

The action doesn’t have to be perfect. Just do it.

You don’t need a plan. Just do it.

You don’t need to figure out how to scale now. Just do it.

You don’t need to seek advice from everyone. Just do it.

I’ll leave you with this as an example.

I just launched a home service business with rocks and flyers. There’s more details than that, but here’s the business plan:

  • Print 100 flyers
  • Buy 100 rocks and have kids paint the rocks
  • Put the flyers and rocks in plastic bags and toss them in driveways of nice homes
  • Offer the most relevant service
  • Book the job

Again, that’s simplified, but you get the point.

JUST DO IT

Then figure out ALLLL the other things later.

Until next time...

Two things:

  1. I love this style of content.

  2. Do things others won’t if you want to achieve the outcomes everyone wants.
