This thing will slowly, secretly, and quietly destroy you...

What I’m about to say isn’t everybody’s story.

But I do believe everybody has experienced at least a little bit of it at one point or another. It won’t just hold you back from the success and all the things you want to achieve. It will move you BACKWARDS.

And with everything we have going on these days, it’s so easy to fall into this cycle. I find myself doing it. I know a lot of other people fill their time doing it too.

I call it living a last minute life.

Here’s what it looks like You’re living a reactive life. You let life go by, and at the last second of every opportunity, you reach out and try to hitch a ride.

  • You wait until the last minute to apply for the job you know you want, because you don’t believe in yourself enough to take the jump sooner
  • You wait to start the business that’s been in your head for years, because life is just too busy right now
  • Your kids are too young, there’s too much on your plate, and one day it’ll be the right time

But when you’re living a last minute life... one day never comes.

And here’s the part people miss.

A last minute life doesn’t mean you handle it in the last minute. Sometimes it means you totally miss it, and then it’s too late.

You leave the house late, hit traffic, and miss your flight. You don’t make it to the ceremony on time. You miss your kid score their first goal or hit their first home run.

And the worst part? You KNOW it.

You waited. You thought about it. You knew what you needed to do. You just didn’t do it.

It can be as small as the dentist. You only want to go when something hurts. But by the time something finally hurts, you have a big problem.

Same thing with the gym. You wait and wait, living out of shape and exhausted, until you finally get there. And when you do, you realize you could have been there this whole time.

You don’t need to get ready to go to the gym. You just have to go.

This doesn’t make you less than More than anything, it makes you normal.

Most people are living on a hamster wheel. A life they don’t feel in control of. A job they hate. A relationship that might be toxic. Dreams that might never come true.

They’re passive. And then reactive to all the things that pop up.

But you are not normal. Nor do you want to be.

You’re somebody who reads newsletters on Sundays. You’re proactive about your dreams, your goals, healthy relationships, your health, and a life that is anything but normal.

You are not ordinary. You are extraordinary. And extraordinary people aren’t perfect either. There will be times you wait until the last minute on something you just don’t want to do. I get that. I’m not immune to it. I genuinely fall short on this from time to time.

But now you know what it’s called.

And the more situations you live a last minute life in, the more it becomes your mindset. You’re better than that.

LAST THING I’LL SAY This is the reality of being human and figuring things out along the way. People come into your life who have figured a few things out, and they share it with you. Then it’s on you to turn around and share it with somebody else. I appreciate you for sticking with me through this one.

My hope is that this is a wake up call. That you go from living a last minute life to living a proactive one.

Starting today.

Until next time... Stay in the fight, Kevin
