Secret to Building Multiple Businesses and Being a Great Dad

Twitter Post

Here’s the secret to building multiple businesses and being a great dad:

It’s a choice.

It’s afternoon on a weekday as I sit in a rocking chair wit my son after his nap

A luxury I won’t ever take for granted.

Yes I’m typing this now with him on my lap, but he likes watching the letters move across the screen of my phone. I tell myself that he’ll love to write one day as well

Working from home during the holidays is a new adventure to say the least.

The work never stops (nor do I want it to) but the rest of the world, including my kids school, shut down.

So there’s a balancing act that’s needed.

The solution is what it’s always been for me, get up extra early and get as much done as possible.

Normally it’s 4, some days it’s in the 3s depending on what I need to get into the deep flow on.

The day started out with 3 solid hours of work before anyone stirred.

When they got up, brush teeth and breakfast were in order.

#3 went down for a nap while #1 and #2 keep themselves occupied.

They know the drill when dad’s on the phone… but also take full advantage of asking for snacks knowing that I won’t want to argue too much.

They’ve got that one figured out

In between calls we play quick games of keepy uppy (IYKYK) and then back on the computer.

Crafts and books for the win.

Although they’ll want Disney+, hold off as long as you can with the crafts and books.

Then throw it in like a street racer hits the Nos button. It’ll get you to the finish.

The day is still young as #3 wakes up, but time stands still just for a moment or two with this little guy.

Lunches will be made and more computer work done.

At one point the laptop will shut and I’ll transition mainly to the phone to finish off the day.

The phone is handy but also a dangerous tool. It will always pull you in if you let it.

Where you set those boundaries are for you to decide, but SOME do need to be set.

The day will close watching #1 and #2 in Jiu Jitsu and then dad gets a turn.

A show on the couch and then a book in bed.

I could talk to you for an hour about the financial and lifestyle goals that I have, but I’m not gonna lie, this was a Monday full of “wealth.”
