Tell Your Story, Someone Is Waiting for It
There are more people than you realize that absolutely hate what they do.
But you’d never know until something sparks that fire in them and they let you in on their secret.
When I started Jiu Jitsu a few years ago, I was a cop. Now I’m not.
That’s not something you necessarily make an announcement about.
But everyone loves to hear cop stories and ask “how’s work? You catch any bad guys lately?”
And while you’re out on the mats rolling around with sweaty dudes, the “I quit my job to run my own business” convo doesn’t work well.
So most of the time I play along
“Oh ya, works great. All the bad guys are caught. City is safe”
But today I didn’t want to fake it.
This time I opened the can of worms.
“Well… I quit… and went Into business for myself…”
REALLY?!
“Yep”
Didn’t you like being a cop?
“Nope”
—You should have seen this guys excitement.
He immediately launches into how much he hates what he does. He’s firing a million questions a minute with a million more left in the tank.
There was a spark I saw in him. Like he saw someone else that actually did the thing he wants to do.
It became something that was possible or attainable.
The conversation ended in a puddle of sweat and grunts… because of the Jiu Jitsu of course
But that won’t be the last of it, I can tell.
I was super hesitant to tell anyone my new gig. It’s hard to explain, people don’t get it, not everyone agrees… but I’m glad I did.
Whatever YOUR story is. Tell it. There’s someone out there just like this dude, who needs to hear it.
