What Do You Do For Work?

Twitter Post

I think I’ve found the answer to the question every entrepreneur hates

“So, what do you do for work?”

After leaving police work, it has been WAY harder to explain what I do.

I used to just say “I’m a cop”. Boom. Done. No further explanation.

Now it’s a different story.

But I just had an epiphany;

Entrepreneurs are the scientists of business… hear me out.

Scientists have a hypothesis.

Then they need to test the hypothesis to prove it one way or the other.

From there they gather data, adjust and test again.

They might even find a conclusion that is completely different from the original hypothesis.

No one questions the process of a scientist. That’s just what they do.

Entrepreneurs go through the same process in the lifespan of their ventures.

We have an idea. We test it out and see what works and what doesn’t.

From there we adjust and pivot to the next idea or add on to the existing one.

Eventually, after many of these tests, a solution is found. Normally corresponding with some kind of payment.

All this occurred to me

And that’s why I this is the best answer that exists for that Christmas party you’re going to be attending soon.

Now when someone asks you:

So, what do you do for work?

You can say

I’m a business scientist

Tell me that isn’t gold!
