What I Talk About When I Talk About My First Marathon

Twitter Post

I WROTE THIS BEFORE THE MARATHON (scroll down for after)

I run, but I’ve never really considered my self a “runner”.

That’s always been part of the training, but never much past 5k for years.

Those of you that CrossFit know what I mean

The last few years I’ve increased the mileage to 10ks once a week and running a couple 10k races a year… for fun I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

But earlier this year a buddy asked me if I wanted to do a marathon with him.

Truthfully that’s always been on the list, but never really had the catalyst to do it. Well, this was it.

From 10k weekends I increased to half marathon weekends and then one 17miler in there.

Thinking back, maybe I should have done a longer distance, but as I sit on the bus driving to the starting line in St. George, UT at 0435 in the morning today, I feel ready.

Maybe because of overconfidence or the whole ignorance is bliss thing… but I’m not nervous.

I’m not saying that you should say “yes” to everything like that movie Yes Man with Jim Carrey…

BUT sometimes opportunities will show themselves in uncomfortable and unknown ventures.

We all have those governors in our minds that regulate our comfort.

Pushing past those regulations and through your internal red tape will lead to some freaking cool stuff.

Cheers! 🤙🏻

I WROTE THIS AFTER THE MARATHON:

That was awful.

I can barely walk.

Like legit barely walk…

looking forward for the next one 🤣
